Poonam belongs to a lower middle class family. The story unfolded when the SaReGaMaPa production team reached out for an invitation to Poonam's mother to be present on the show. To their surprise, her mother requested if she can bring Simran, Poonam's adopted daughter to the show as well. The feat is amazing primarily because Poonam has seen quite some hardships by any standard. Her father died before she was born. Her mother worked as a housemaid and also sold roasted corn on the streets of Lucknow to make the ends meet. Her mother enabled Poonam to pass standard 12 and join a PCO at Rs. 600 a month. Well, regardless if Poonam wins the contest or not - she has already proven to be a true winner by yards! She is one of the best singers on the show and has proven out to be a role model in real life. The story is more laudable because she did not reveal this story public until the voting has ended. Actually, it was discovered by a coincidence. The story regarding her poor family background was already broadcasted numerous times on the show making her emotional and disturbed. This time around, it seems she did not want to pull in her adopted daughter for sympathy votes. It must be a proud moment for a brave and true winner indeed. Please take a minute and wish her. You can also listen to her songs on the left in the media player.
