Poonam Yadav has an adopted girl Print E-mail
Written by Media Bureau

In an astonishing and stunning revelation, the SaReGaMaPa team in Lucknow found out that Poonam Yadav, a contestant on the show has an adopted girl, named Simran, who is 4 years old now. Poonam, the 26 years old contestant was around 22 years old when she decided to shelter the 2 years old baby gal who was abandoned by her biological mother.

Poonam belongs to a lower middle class family. The story unfolded when the SaReGaMaPa production team reached out for an invitation to Poonam's mother to be present on the show. To their surprise, her mother requested if she can bring Simran, Poonam's adopted daughter to the show as well.

The feat is amazing primarily because Poonam has seen quite some hardships by any standard. Her father died before she was born. Her mother worked as a housemaid and also sold roasted corn on the streets of Lucknow to make the ends meet. Her mother enabled Poonam to pass standard 12 and join a PCO at Rs. 600 a month.

When contacted, Poonam said, “I adopted her because I didn’t want her to undergo the same difficulties as me. I still had shelter, she was abandoned.  I feel that if every family adopts an orphan, no child will be without shelter. With my kind of income, if I can gather the courage to take this initiative, I think anyone can do it. We just need the determination to do it.”

Payaol Patel, the creative head of SaReGaMaPa confirmed the news. She said, “We were actually stunned when we heard about Poonam. When our team went to her house in Lucknow, they found that she lived in a very small house and she belongs to a lower middle-class family. Hats off to her, she has the guts to adopt a daughter. More so because she belongs to a poor family and being a single mother in a state like Lucknow is a laudable feat.”

Well, regardless if Poonam wins the contest or not - she has already proven to be a true winner by yards! She is one of the best singers on the show and has proven out to be a role model in real life. The story is more laudable because she did not reveal this story public until the voting has ended. Actually, it was discovered by a coincidence. The story regarding her poor family background was already broadcasted numerous times on the show making her emotional and disturbed. This time around, it seems she did not want to pull in her adopted daughter for sympathy votes. It must be a proud moment for a brave and true winner indeed.

Please take a minute and wish her. You can also listen to her songs on the left in the media player.

Oh my lord! She is a winner indeed. Not only she sings good, but this is simply an amazing story! I am feeling inspired and proud by just reading this. I wish this story was made public last week or well in advance. She needs publicity and deserves the same. There are many clowns in the media who get coverage for a sneeze. Here we have a true winner. She must be promoted. Way to go!

Poonam is a great exponent for a great wiiner, not only in life, but also in arts and culture. Remarkable feat, especially in a conservative society such as Lucknow. Not many would have even dared to do it, if put in her shoes. Hats off to you Poonam. You make us feel so proud.
