Tripura tableau resonates with S.D. Burman music

New Delhi, Jan 26 : The haunting strains of "Sun Mere Bandhu Re" rent the air as the Tripura tableau rolled down Rajpath at the Republic Day parade here, paying tribute to legendary film musician S.D. Burman Tuesday.

The float showed a boat, with a larger than life model of the late Burman, who had sung in many Bollywood movies. The back of the vessel had singing boatmen and a collage of posters of his films.

‘On Dream One Theme…” album pledges to unite India

Mumbai, Jan 24 (IANS) “One Dream One Theme, Give Us Peace”, a patriotic music album launched here Sunday, pledges to unite people against all odds, according to Congress leader Jagdish Tytler.
“It is not a small thing. It’s really nice that people of Bombay take such initiative and pledge to unite people through such songs,” Tytler told IANS after launching the album at La Kebabia, ahead of the 61st Republic Day.

Asked if he thinks that Mumbai has become proactive post 26/11 carnage, he said, “Bombay was always proactive. The spirit will never die.”

K.L. Saigal’s biography to be re-released

New Delhi, Jan 17 (IANS) The national-award winning biography of Bollywood’s legendary singer Kundan Lal Saigal will be re-released in a paperback edition on his 63rd death anniversary Monday.
Titled “Kundan”, it has been penned by Sharad Dutt, a former director of the Delhi Doordarshan Kendra.

First released in hardbound on Saigal’s birth centenary in 2004, the 2005 national award winning book in a paperback edition by Penguin will be unveiled by former information and broadcasting minister Vasant Sathe at the Films Division Auditorium here.

A documentary on Saigal entitled “Saigal aye, baso more man mein”, directed by Dutt, will also be screened at the function. The film was released with the book in 2004.
 
Anil Kapoor makes American TV debut on 24

Washington, Jan 16 (IANS) Bollywood star Anil Kapoor is excited about his debut Sunday on “24″, a popular American TV series depicting a 24-hour period in the life of a government agent fighting fictitious terrorist threats to the US.

The new incarnation of “24″ broadcast by Fox represents a number of firsts for the veteran actor. For one “I’ve never played a president”, he says in a video interview on Fox Television.

“It’s the first time that I’m doing television. I’ve been doing feature films for around 30 years. Not only was I excited that I was doing ‘24′, but I was also anxious and nervous that I was doing something for the first time in my life.”

Kapoor says he took the role on the urging of his friends and family. “People told me, ‘No matter what happens, you have to be on ‘24′! My son, my daughter, my friends.
 
Hollywood celebs help Haiti

London, Jan 15 (IANS, ANI) Hollywood celebrities like Jessica Alba, Tyra Banks and star couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are doing their bit to help victims of the Haiti earthquake, which left thousands of people dead and many homeless. The poverty-stricken Caribbean island was hit hard by a massive tremor measuring seven on the Richter Scale Tuesday that struck just south of capital city Port-au-Prince.

While rapper Wyclef Jean urged the public to donate money to help the rescue efforts in the country, others have come forward to support the campaign.

“We are devastated by the news from Haiti. We will work closely with our good friend Wyclef Jean to support the humanitarian efforts on the island and help those who have been injured and left without homes and shelter,” read a statement from Pitt-Jolie, reported contactmusic.com.

MJ’s custom furniture for London stint set for auction

London, Jan 15 (ANI): The furniture, which Michael Jackson commissioned for the English home he planned to rent during his 50-date stint at London’s O2 Arena, is set to go under the hammer.

A top Italian furniture maker is to auction off sofas, chairs and desks the King of Pop ordered for the luxurious 15 million pounds residence.

In fact, the furniture maker has generously handed over the cash he paid for the extravagant items to the King of Pop’s parents.

The late pop star planned to fill Foxbury Manor in Kent with costly Louis XIV and Louis XV replicas.
