Aerosmith set for Beijing’s Show of Peace

London, Jan 15 (ANI): American hard rock band Aerosmith is reportedly set to play their first show without frontman Steven Tyler at the Show of Peace concert in Beijing, China in April.

According to the Straits Times, the rockers are set to join the Black Eyed Peas and guitarist Jimmy Page on April 17 at the show, which is a globally televised event to mark Earth Day, reports the Daily Star.

Tyler, 61, had quit Aerosmith last year to embark on a solo career, but his former bandmates have pledged to continue without him.

The band has yet to name its frontman, though Lenny Kravitz had been mentioned as an early frontrunner. (ANI)

Not all attacks in Australia are racist, says Rahman

Sydney, Jan 14 (IANS) Not all attacks on Indians in Australia are racist in nature, says music maestro A.R. Rahman, now here for a free concert in a bid to bridge relations between India and Australia. The Indian Oscar winner urged the media not to go overboard.

“We need a more responsible media. Media is a great tool but it can also be misused and provoke people. Just one wrong can kill thousands of people. That’s happened in the past, and we need to be extremely careful and strict about what we are - the truth,” Rahman told a press conference here Thursday.

 
Six music composers come together for 'Striker'

New Delhi, Jan 13 (IANS) A total of six music composers have come together to compose seven different songs for filmmaker Chandan Arora's 'Striker', which features Tamil actor Siddharth, whose last Hindi project was 'Rang De Basanti'.

The album will have a variety of songs composed by music directors like Vishal Bhardwaj, Swanand Kirkire, Shailendra Kumar, Yuva Shankar, Amit Trivedi and rap artist Blaaze, said a press release.

The composers have also sung their respective numbers.

In 'Striker', Siddharth plays the role of a carrom player.

NEW YORK - SUPERSTAR singer and actress Beyonce Knowles reportedly wants to take a six month break from the music business.

She apparently thinks she needs to take some time off and focus on her personal life, including spending time with her five-year-old nephew Daniel and her husband, hip-hop mogul Jay-Z, reported celebrity website Bang Showbiz on Wednesday.
 
Legendary playback singer Yesudas turns 70

Mangalore (Karnataka), Jan 10 (IANS) “Gori tera gaon bada pyara, Mein toh gaya maara, Aake yaahan re….” The voice that has enthralled generations and soothed a million souls, including Oscar winner A.R. Rahman, belongs to the legendary K.J. Yesudas, who turned 70 Sunday.
Rahman, in a tribute to the veteran playback singer who is fondly called ‘Gana Gandharvan’, once said: “The most beautiful voice in the world is that of Yesudas.”

With more than 40,000 film songs in several languages, including Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Bengali, Gujarati, Oriya, Marathi, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tulu, Malay, Russian, Arabic, Latin and English, in his kitty, Yesudas’ journey in the world of music continues.

As has been a practice on every birthday of his, the versatile singer, who is always dressed in a flowing white kurta and a white dhoti, paid obeisance with his family at the Kollur Mookambika temple near here Sunday.

 
Richard Gere campaigns to turn Bodh Gaya into vegetarian zone

Patna, Jan 7 (IANS) Hollywood star Richard Gere, who is in Bodh Gaya in Bihar to attend a five-day discourse on Buddhism by Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama, Thursday supported the demand to turn the town where Buddha attained enlightenment into a vegetarian zone.
“I am strongly in favour of turning Bodh Gaya into a vegetarian zone,” Richard Gere told mediapersons at Bodh Gaya Thursday before going to participate in a discourse on Buddhism by the Dalai Lama.

He also appealed to locals as well as tourists to adopt vegetarianism.

Madonna to foray into rock with new album

London, Jan 7 (IANS) Pop diva Madonna is planning a foray into the rock genre with her next album. The singer has lined up rock band Pearl Jam producer Brendan O Brien to work on her new tracks. Madonna is starting her 12th studio album, a follow-up to 2008’s Hard Candy, and she’s looking to expand her musical style for the next record, reported contactmusic.com

The currently untitled record is due for release later this year.
